Shield
Blue and white are the colors traditionally associated with Infantry, the designation of the unit for which the insignia was originally authorized. The saltires, suggested by the Alabama state flag, are used to indicate Alabama, the entire state being the home area of the battalion. The linden leaf alludes to Linden, the units headquarters.
Crest
The crest is that of the Alabama Army National Guard.
The coat of arms was originally approved for the 203d Infantry Battalion on 15 December 1954. It was redesignated for the 203d Field Artillery Battalion on 4 September 1957. It was redesignated for the 156th Military Police Battalion on 2 December 1959. The insignia was cancelled on 6 July 1972. It was reinstated and authorized for the 200th Engineer Battalion with the blazon and symbolism revised on 8 May 1996.
